ACTIVITIES OF NORTHANTS AMATEUR ASTRONOMERS
Northants Amateur Astronomers was founded in 1983 as the Kettering and District Amateur Astronomers Society by its current President, Nick Freville.

Activities of the group centre around our fortnightly meetings held on the first and third Tuesday of the month at Church House St Botolph Road in Barton Seagrave starting at 7.45pm. and on the last Tuesday of the month we hold our star watches at Newton Field Centre near Geddington, except in the month of june , this is due to British summer time and the length of twilight. At our meetings you will have the chance to attend a variety of lecture meetings and participate in informal discussion in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Our first Tuesday meeting usually consists of a guest speaker from either a UK university or other institution. While our third Tuesday meeting is usually more informal where short presentations are given by members and a full guide to where and what to look out for in the night sky over the coming few weeks is presented, see events page for up to date information of the evenings events. All lectures are aimed at a popular non-technical level, and can thus be enjoyed by all, no matter what experience they may have or not in astronomy.

Another main feature of Northants Amateur Astronomers are our regular observing sessions of the night sky. Here you will have the chance to use one of the society telescopes and speak to an experienced amateur astronomer if you require any help. A popular feature of our observing sessions include demonstrations on finding your way around the night sky and objects of interest to look out for through binoculars.

Other activities include a regular monthly newsletter (In Focus), access to a well stocked library of books, magazines and videos, the chance to participate in visits to places of astronomical interest, weekend observing sessions, telescope hire and the benefits of affiliation membership to the Society for Popular Astronomy and the British Astronomical Association, plus much much more!

Our standard membership rate is just £20.00 per annum (or £12.50 concessions) for which you receive all the above benefits of membership of one of the UK’s most active local astronomical societies, there is also a fee of £2 per member at all meetings, this will include refreshments. Alternatively, for those who feel that they are unable to attend meetings on a regular basis, but who would none the less like to be kept up to date of astronomical happenings, then we also offer Associate Membership at £5.00 per annum. Associate Members receive the monthly In Focus Newsletter and have access to our range of services.
